If Amy was on the boat alone, how would she know where to go?

maybe the reason Amy wanted Dan back on boat was to drive the boat. After all, it was Dan who borrowed it so he knew how to pilot it and how to use the compass/gps/radio.

other than that, I can't think of another reason to go after him.
