Dammit...I seem to be the only person who found those children scary. I mean, they were just hacking away at people for no reason. That's sick. I understand it's a horror movie. That didn't disturb anyone?

I thought it was scary as well when I saw watched it for the first time on SciFi's 13 Nights of Halloween back in October. When they repeated it the next day, I recorded it and from then on, I would sometimes watch it. Now that I've watched it so many times, it's not that scary. Plus, it's hard to believe that the kid who played as Caleb Hanks is a very handsome boy:

I don't see where that kid is in the movie.

There is a scene where the mom is looking at some photos and she looks at the pictures of the kids who worked in the mine. It should be the one where they show their name, height, and birth. It's somewhere in the middle of the film, I believe.
The kid is on the Bulgarian version of Are You Smarter Than A Fifth Grader?http://media.abv.bg/img.phtml?id=207970

To me the kids were not scary enough. All the director had to do is look at the front cover of a Korn CD to get an idea of what the kids should have looked like.

Oh, and here's a scene he did.
