They're remaking this instead of Watchmen?!

I vented about this on the board for the original Summer School so I thought I'd do the same here ...

So, apparently Paramount decided they would rather spend their money on a remake of a largely forgotten eighties teen flick rather than taking a chance on what could have potentially been the greatest comic book movie ever made.

I can guarantee you that the Summer School remake is going to suck, get panned and disapear as quickly as it appeared whereas Watchmen could have been an instant classic.

But NOOO!!! Rather than bankroll a movie that had a strong buzz surrounding it they decided to blow money on yet another vapid remake.

Congratulations Paramount, you really picked a winner!

OK.... we get it.... you have a mean hard-on for Watchmen.

Listen... I'm a fan of the graphic novel as well. But... would you rather they wait and get all the proper talent together to make Watchmen well, OR hastily throw one together just because they've got the cash lying around?

As for the Summer School remake, i for one am against it. I'm a fan of the original, and the plot summary of the remake changes some things. But you know what I'm gonna do?

Not a damn thing. I'm not gonna sit on this message board for months on end bitching and moaning and whailing about how this is a travesty. I'm not gonna start a campaign to end all remakes everywhere (which would be a futile campaign, and i don't generally have a problem with remakes in general). I'm probably not even going to see it, but we'll have to wait for the trailer for my final decision on that one.

I'm going to sit in my dorm room and watch the original. Maybe go to classes, drink some whiskey, have sex with my girlfriend, what-the- *beep* -ever

But i am hoping for a well made Watchmen movie, key words being WELL MADE!

Yes, all the '06 Summer School has in common with the '87 version is the title. Have you read the plot summary for the new version?! It sounds LAME!

For me it's the principle. They would rather sink money into a crappy teen movie rather than take a chance on what could have been the greatest comic book ever made and I think that SUCKS.

Is what I'm saying going to make any difference? Probably not. Let's face it; movie execs are driven by making a profit and idiotic remakes are where the money is. While it could be argued that a Watchmen movie would be profitable, let's face it (Despite Time citing it as one of the 100 greatest pieces of fiction of the last 100 years) it's mostly a cult phenomenom and the audience for the movie would probably be very limited.

And that's most likely why Paramount decided to drop it. It's unfortunate but that's how a business that bottom line driven works. They would rather go with mindless entertainment that'll make a quick buck vs. a film that would appeal to a limited audience but, as I said, could have the potential to be a crossover hit with mainstream audiences.

Like I said; it'll be interesting to see how Watchmen does once it's finally made. As I've also stated before if it's a success then Paramount is probably going to feel pretty foolish for dropping it. Especially if Summer School '06 tanks like I'm predicting it's going to.

Fine, let them make *beep* movies that sink. They lose money, not us.

I'd rather not see *beep* movies, then be disappointed by a hastily made Watchmen film.

I'll let them take their time.

Wow could you comaplain about this anymore?????

We get that it upsets you but god stop moaning already.....did you ever think that maybe in a few years they'll make a Watchmen movie? It's not like it will never happen.

Plus i highly doubt a teen flick is the reason they decied to not do a comic book movie.

Comic Book movies cost millions more than this film will cost. I'm sure a combination of films is the reason they couldn't make the watchmen at this time.

Im not saying you're worng for not being upset but please STOP complaing already. You've compalined like 4 times........

No offence meant and Im not trying to start any kind of fight.

Also I'm not thrilled that they're making a re-make the oringinal was awesome and this is going to be a stupid cookie cutter teen flick.

Insted of comapling however I'm just not going to see it.

Watchmen's subject matter is too difficult to film. So re-make a forgotten 80's film and place it in a slow season for film - late August release.

Wow! Just wow! I can't believe that after reading the synopsis and seeing the information about that film that there are still people who think this is a REMAKE...

UH NO!

Why don't you get the proper information before you jump on the I HATE REMAKES bandwagon?

Summer School 2006 is a remarkable, original film that blows the doors off of most Hollywood Crap-fests I've seen!

And who am I?

I write for Dread Central...so I just might know what I'm talking about!

Check our review for the film here... http://www.dreadcentral.com/node/11162

No, I'm really afraid that you don't. Giving the film 4 1/2 out of 5 stars proves that.

The film was barely tolerable at best. Boring, predictable, and barely worthy of the B-Movie genre, with laughable acting and atrocious lighting and sound.

The only good thing about it sharing the name of the '87 movie is that when people accidentally pick up the Mark Harmon comedy, they'll see an enjoyable flick instead of this indie garbage.
