Casting info?

does anyone know if this film has been casted...i heard they had auditions about a month ago

reply

i have not heard nor read about it. so far, only Sarah Jessica Parker is listed in the cast members. i can't wait to know who will be the leading man.

reply

i auditioned for the role of simon about a month ago. i assume they've cast it.

Pity. I would've been great. j/k.

reply

Hi devonjackson, do you know when filming starts? is it this Fall? is the venue in NYC?

reply

I think filming starts late September/ early October.
Does anyone know who else has been cast? IMDb is soo slow getting the information up. They've got to have more of the roles cast than just Sarah Jessica Parker, who I think will do a wonderful job in the role of Sarah
I'm looking forward to it. And, yes I think some of it will be shot in NYC. The school scene will definitely be shot else where though.

reply

i've been checking the IMDb constantly for an update. I think they changed the production date to commence on October 12th instead of 10th as earlier reported. It is less than a month to go but they still do not have information as to casting.

In the October issue of InStyle Magazine, SJP did confirm she is making this movie but no mention of shooting commencement date.

reply

Yeah, I check this page pretty often too...There's got to be some sort of information on casting because they auditioned roles a few weeks ago. I'm assuming they have the majority of the roles already cast, but no news...if any one has any info, feel free to post!

reply

i think it must be cast by now... i auditioned three weeks ago and was called back, call backs were two weeks ago to the day... which makes me think that it's definitely been cast by now... no info on who though

reply

wow...mfox85, did you make it? i hope you did!

how many main characters are in this play? and what are the characters?

reply

[deleted]

yeah they did cast most of the parts, the film is actually being shot at Drew University in Madison, NJ.

I've been cast as a college student in this film - We ARE in fact taping this Tues-Friday, and it's going to be filmed in NY but the "setting" is actually supposed to be Vermont somewhere. I'm so excited! I'll post more when I get back, to let you all in on any other cast members I find out about... :)

reply

Beau bridges is in the movie.

reply

James Rebhorn is also in the movie. He's a very recognizable character actor. Look him up on IMDB and check out his pictures and you'll know who i'm talking about. I ran into him on theset. I work for the food services. There's an older british woman who gets special treatment on the set also, i'm tryin to figure out who she is.

and yes, beau bridges is in it.. i almost accidently smacked him in the face with a door today.

reply

i think it's miranda richardson.

And so she should.

Does the film look like its going to be good?

Do I look like a people person?

I go to Drew University and this is the e-mail I got:

Get ready! We are about to hear the familiar phrase, “lights, camera, action” once again. Last spring, Drew and Madison were locations for the feature film, “The Family Stone.” This time it’s the film “Spinning into Butter.”

The movie stars Sarah Jessica Parker, Beau Bridges, Miranda Richardson, and Mykelti Williamson and will film at Drew on (sorry, dunno if I'm allowed to give dates to the public.) Students, staff, and faculty are welcome to watch.

According to movie publicity, “Spinning Into Butter” is set on a college campus in Vermont and explores racism and political correctness in America today. Parker plays a college dean who investigates the source of anonymous racist letters at the school.

Beau Bridges is official in the cast. I've been on the set for the past two days.

I just got back after filming on Governor's Island (off the southernmost point of Manhattan) for 4 days... THAT is the setting for the college... They've been there for 8 weeks so far, and have another month or more to tie up there. No one made any mention of anything other than the occasional day shoot at NYU or Brooklyn College - so I'm not sure where the info about Drew or whatever came from... but none of the PA's or AD's talked about that when asked...

Beau Bridges was fantastic to see in action - and he actually thanked all of the extras, saying that we were great to work with, etc. SJ was great too, as were all the lead actors.

Miranda Richardson IS in the movie - some of you might recognize her most from "The Phantom of the Opera" - she played Madame Giry. Mykelti Williamson (Bubba from "Forrest Gump") was on set as well, and I was fortunate enough to speak with him for a while.

Richard Riehle was there too - he and I conversed a bit as well. I didn't get to talk to James Rebhorn, but I did notice him talking to a few of the other, less-known principals.

All the leads were truly fantastic... that's the best word I can come up with and it's quite the understatement.

Tim Bird (First Assistant Director) and Mark Brokaw (Director) were great to work for - Oh - and Victor Vargas is one of the principal actors as well. His best known work was for an indie called "Raising Victor Vargas", according to another extra who went to school with him... It won all sorts of film festival awards, I can't wait to check it out.

The movie is based on a play, which was based on an old cartoon and books from the 30's featuring a character called "Little Sambo" - it's quite racially provacative, and I found out a ton about the story line, but I'm not going to be the one to give it away... ;)

reply

thank you very much Lara for the scoop. i hope you get to have more part in the movie, good luck!

tell us more about SJP.

reply

thanks awesome606 - i was on camera quite a bit, so the best i can hope for at this point is that i don't just wind up in the "deleted scenes" section of the dvd! LOL

SJP was very sweet and funny - there was this one point where we were shooting outside, and every time the director called "ACTION!", they'd start speaking and a helicopter would fly over and we'd have to cut and start over... after the 3rd or 4th time, she and I exchanged some silly banter about the 'copters and such... she definitely does NOT put on heirs or anything of that sort... she was great.

Again, as were all the lead roles - I got the chance to speak to everyone but Miranda Richardson and James Rebhorn, and I am absolutely honored to have had the opportunity I did to be there!

I actually got a call yesterday for another shoot - different movie or whatever - from the same company that cast me for SIB, so I guess they were happy with me!

anyway - off the topic of ME... lol seriously, it was a fantastic experience, and i hope i get to work with any of the extras (or leads of course) again soon! :)

reply

Good learning experience.

My friend was just cast in a speaking role as a sorority girl. :) She says they're filming her part this coming month.

reply

they are actually filming this week here at Brooklyn College...Sarah Jessica Parker is expected to be here tom. Nov 3rd to do some scenes..they will be filming here until nov 5th.

reply

I did mention Brooklyn College and NYU day shoots in my previous post... we were told by the PAs and ADs that those were the two colleges that they would be doing day shoots at... none of them mentioned Drew, though... that was my point.

reply

Do you know Emma Myles? She is supposed to be one of the college girls as well?

reply

Sorry - I don't know her, but that doesn't mean she isn't cast...

reply

I am a student at brooklyn college and they are filming the movie now.
