Is SJP's character a racist?
I've never seen the play so I'm just asking a simple question. I don't understand the whole "struggle w/issues towards race" that is her character's conflict. Can someone explain?

shareI saw the play....she holds alot of judgements about other races but sort of seeks redemption in the end....I'm not sure how the movie is gonna go though. I dont think Sarah Jessica Parker is that great of an actress but for some reason this seems like a really good part for her (kinda like the part she had in The Family Stone.) I think this can make a very great movie becuase the play is excellent. I'm hoping its good.
sharepart of the conflict comes from her past as an educator, and why the current college hired her... as well as the events on campus at the time.
you're really going to have to see it (if it ever does finally make it out) to truly understand her role, and appreciate the story at all.
thanks for the insight Ladydelaluna. Was SJP's character the main character in this story?
shareThat's a hard question to answer. She's by no means in a "supporting role" but there's a lot going on around her. I think it would actually depend on who you ask... LOL
shareI'd give her the main character role.....but there is alot going on around her but a large part of the play is her struggling with herself and her views. but i think its based on opinion and how you see the play
shareI wouldn't call her a full-blown racist. She was traumatized due to past experiences at a college in Chicago where the student body was mainly inner-city blacks and was now being forced to deal with the conflict. The black reporter made her reveal her story after she told him she was not interested in dating him, and flashbacks showed students that could be classified as ghetto. It simply became overwhelming and she needed an escape which she thought the college in Vermont could provide.
shareI would not say she is racist either but she definitely has prejudices and biases. However, she is very aware of them and after trying to unsuccessfully avoid racial conflict realized that she had to make some difficult decisions.
