Its not the best movie in the world, but its not the worst either. I kinda wonder how Spike would have done it.
I think SJP did a pretty good job playing the somewhat ditzy, somewhat nervous white girl.
As far as the scary black men in puffy coats go, if you actually listen to her speech she clearly says that it was the "the one or two who tend to dominate attention" that triggered her racial apprehension, what not the majority of the population. She was basically defining how stereotypes work.
In my estimation, the movies deeper issue was not about the conflict between individuals, but in inner conflict SJP and the other characters had in matching up their idealism with their own reality.
