Why no writers credit to HG Wells?

Especially in this version where even the name of the Invisible man is taken from the Wells novel?

Must be because it's so far removed from Wells' novel the credit would be meaningless? Or perhaps cost the studio money, unless his books are public domain. I don't know how a lot of these supposed adaptations of THE INVISIBLE MAN occurred.

Did Wells just come up with the very concept of Invisibility, and every film or story since then is automatically indebted to him?

I'm pretty sure he'd be ok with not getting the credit.
