YAAAAAWN

This movie had nothing, went nowhere, and should not have been made. Possibly the most boring movie I have ever seen, and I like Maura Tierny and Paul Rudd usually. I will be kind and say there was maybe 3 or 4 mild chuckles. The acting could have been stellar (which it was NOT) and that still could not have saved a poorly written, poorly directed, poorly shot waste of everyone's time.

On IMDB I see this movie is labeled as a comedy. I can see if you went into thinking it was a comedy how you would be disappointed. I thought this was more of a drama with some mild chuckles as you put it.

I do think the acting was great though but there could have been a little more (in the ways of the writing and directing). I liked this movie because it was off the wall and fun to watch and I thoroughly enjoyed it.

This is totally mislabeled.
I watched it, thinking it was comedy as well.
After about 30 minutes of drama (with light chuckles as horrorchic said) the group agreed that this was not a comedy at all.

As usual for dramas on imdb they get a high score.
Which is actually very helpful because that's how you know how to avoid a movie.
(unfortunately that method doesn't work with mislabeled movies :p)

If you're into drama, go and "enjoy" this movie.
If however you're thirsting for some hysterical laughs... AVOID and look elsewhere.

Comedy is a subjective art form. Just because you didn't like it doesn't mean you can dismiss it from the genre. I hate Dumb and Dumber but i understand that some people enjoyed it.

Well, this thread goes to prove that people who hated this movie are terrible spellers or just 11 year olds.
Anyway, which part of the movie description made you think this was an all out, laugh a minute gutbuster? The part about the guy's dad dying? How about the part discussing a poor fishing town slowly being encroached and destroyed by large companies?

I appreciate not liking this film. I, for one, thought it was cute and entertaining, while not something I'd run out and buy. However, attacking a movie because it wasn't what you thought it would be (your very narrow definition of "comedy" is laughable, no pun intended), is ridiculous.

Just because Paul Rudd was in Anchorman, doesn't mean every movie he's in is going to be at that, ahem, "level".

Start reading reviews. It will help you:
a) Know what movies are about before you see them
b) Gain an appreciation for different kinds of film, like a quiet, character study with great performances (Diggers for example)
and finally
c) Maybe even learn how to spell.

I kinda agree that it was pretty boring, but it was a nice little piece of life film. It was a short, pleasant dramedy which I gave an extra point on my review due to the fight scene outside the bar. Haha... what was the signal word again?

The movie was awesome and Maura Tierney gave an amazing performance as always! It was a great story and all the other actors were great also, but Maura was the best as usual.

I wouldn't call this movie a comedy, it was sad and sappy either, but like other posters said, it's a life movie. Did anyone else feel that this movie was alot like Elizabethtown. I kept watching this and with the dad in the yurn kept thinking about Elizabethtown. I gave this movie a 5, it was just so-so. Paul Rudd showed he can play serious roles, directing was okay, music was pretty good, but the story to this movie was flat. There was no center gravity that it was pulling you towards. I don't need murders, explosions, etc, but something that you can ride along with while watching the actors. I couldn't tell if it was a movie about getting laid or letting go of yourself until about twenty minutes to the end and then I relized it about letting go of yourself, (Elizabethtown). Anyway I wouldn't recommend this movie to anyone but if your like me and try to watch everything, you won't fall asleep but you'll have a hardtime recalling the movie after a couple weeks since it leaves you with nothing at the end but for you to go.........Next!

I didn't think it was as bad as people made it. It was a little *worthy* and sometimes felt like a student of Hal Hartley's might have been involved, but I actually kind of liked it!

It was a very quiet story that had a real sense of place and time, and I thought the entire cast did very well considering the lack of emotional peaks and troughs. My only real gripe would be that I felt as if it had been over-edited and that a lot of stuff which would have helped us identify with the characters more had been cut out.

Also Paul Rudd was freakin' great in it. Why the hell doesn't he get more dramatic roles??

Two parts boring with a side of yawn.
