SPOILER: The ending scene

I know this isn't a classic or anything of that sort. An average predictable movie, Ok for the TV. But still one question remains unanswered.

After Evan dies, two guys kidnap Nicole, tie her and warn her that she better get their 5 mil $ or they are going to kill her mother, sister & then her. They mean business and have no interest in the overall plot.

Nicole goes thro all the trouble to dig out the truth & barely manages to survive. In the hospital, the same guy pays her a visit & says he is impressed with her skills and walks out admiring her!! I don't think thugs work that way and $5 mil is quite a large sum of money to pour admiration and walk away. Did look pretty tame ending to me. Any logical explanations appreciated.
