LITTLE BIG TOP TO BEGIN THEATRICAL RUN

Posted: 28 Aug 2008 07:43 PM CDT

The new indie film, LITTLE BIG TOP, will have run at the Kerasotes Eastwood Cinema in Peru, Indiana from August 29th – September 4th. It will also play at the Kennedy Theatre in Hammond, Indiana from Sept. 2nd – 4th, and will open in Hollywood on Halloween at the Sunset 5 Theatre for a week-long engagement. The film will be released on DVD in North America the first week of November by Morningstar Distribution.

The dark-comedy is written and directed by WARD ROBERTS (The Boy Scout) and produced by Christina Mauro of FLY HIGH FILMS and Jessica Petelle-Slagle. The film is being released by Maitland Primrose Group in association with Moving Pictures Magazine.

LITTLE BIG TOP is a personal story for Roberts, taking place in his hometown of Peru, Indiana, also known as “The Circus Capitol of the World,” and is the first feature film shot in the famous Peru Amateur Circus. He wrote the script about an aging, out of work clown who returns to his small hometown with the goal to spend the rest of his days in a drunken stupor. This film deals with the tragic struggles and demons of Seymour Smiles, portrayed by veteran actor SID HAIG. This is a departure from the type of roles the horror-cult fave normally plays. The cast also includes Office Space’s RICHARD RIEHLE, who as a former best friend, convinces Seymour to help the towns amateur clown squad, thrusting him back to the place he fears most . . . the spotlight.

“Everyone who worked on this film is thrilled by the warm reception and praise we received at the Heartland screenings,” stated Roberts. The film also features JACOB ZACHAR, the young star of ABC Family’s hit show Greek.

“As a filmmaker who is interested in exploring the trials and tribulations of everyday life and human flaws, I wanted to create a very complex character, like Seymour Smiles, who has seen highs and lows in his career and personal life,” Roberts elaborated. “Whether it’s family, friends, or ourselves, Seymour’s journey is something we can all relate to. Because of this understanding and empathy, we all pull for him to overcome and conquer his fears. It is truly a story about redemption.”
