For this movie to work (spoilers)

For this plot to work, a lot has to come together.

1) The rival company (can't recall the name) would have to create a resume and references that would pass typical HR screening and, given that there are plenty of salesmen in New York and there is significant investment in moving a salesman from Ohio, Jamie's credentials would have to be very impressive.

2) When Jamie is hired by the Bindview Company, the rival company is counting on Jamie to be paired with Ted.

3) The rival company would have to know that Ted's personality would change because he falls for Belisa.

4) The rival company would also have to know that a successful salesman (Ted) would blow off his clients to spend time with Belisa. Given that Ted bragged about his proficiency in landing ladies, the rival company would be counting on Belisa to have something extra special. Given that it takes a long time to make a deal happen, Belisa would have to be so special that Ted would throw away all the time spent on making those deals happen just to be with her.

You're quite right, unless Brendan Frasier just walked into the company one day and everyone assumed he belonged there.

But, yes, I thought the ending was a complete misfire. Basically too little, too late, too sudden and too unbelievable. I was immersed in the whole drive, narrative and meaning of the movie until they hit me with the BS ending. At that point, I completely got lost and just stopped caring.
