Clerks cost $24,000...


...and it was a great movie. Stop hiding behind the budget as a defense for this awful dreck. Money only limits the creatively limited.

There was definitely no lack of creativity in the kills/gore department. It was clearly just meant to be an FX reel for the director to get a better gig later on, and in that regard it was a success. Lack of CGI definitely helped as well, the effects looked pretty good here. I can overlook the bad acting, sets, audio quality, visuals (because my TV automatically fills in the missing frames - it wasn't jerky/choppy at all when I watched it) etc, because that's not why you watch movies like this. It had great gore, a short and compact run time, tight pacing (for the most part), and was a fun watch...
