Strikingly similar to the Hong Kong movie 'Lost in Time'

My first thought when I saw the trailer was that this was the lastest Hollywood remake of a Hong Kong movie. The film I was thinking of was 'Lost in Time'.

It wasn't just the fact that the storyline was similar (woman loses fiance, is left alone to raise a kid, struggles to rebuild her life with her finace's best friend, who doesn't quite know how to handle the situation) but also the physical similarities betweenthe actors - especially Benicio del Toro and Lau Ching-Wan. see what you think:

del Toro seems like such an unusual choice for this kind of role. But if the film-makers had been inspired by 'Lost in Time' then he becomes a more obvious choice. In fact, I don't think you will find a Hollywood actor who more closely resemebles Lau Ching-Wan, star of 'Lost in Time'!

by the trailer-yeah it would seem that way but after seeing things lost in the fire, it's safe to say it's FAR from a remake!

lost in time is one of the best recent hong kong movies.

This was actually a remake of a DANISH film called "Brødre" (Brothers), by the same director - Susanne Bier. Wether she may have been inspired by Lost in time, i cannot say.

reply

No it is not a remake of Brødre. Some similar themes, perhaps, but also some completely different ones.

Lost In Time seems like a different tragedy simply because the best friend is in pursuit of the widow's affects. The guy isn's a drug user and he doesn't go through any personal tranformation but seems to be a hero..who saves the widow from her loss.

Jerry in Things We lost in the fire is a drug addict who seeking peace in his life and he is trying to do what is best for his Best friends family. He isn't a hero but he is also a victim of loss. He hangs on to Audrey and the children because those are his only living memory of Brian..vice versa for Audrey and the children.

I don't think Alan Loeb would be inspired by Lost in Time simply because that movie lacks creativity and human emotion...in fact Lost in Time is rather dramatized saddness and is a little tad predictable. Plus the story lines are completely different..I see No other similarities only that two women lost their husbands to tragedy.
