Question about deleted scene

Can anyone perhaps explain the original screenplay in regards to the deleted scene which begins with a VW driving in France in 1976 and has a man getting out of the VW in the rain carrying the amphora trophy? Is it perhaps a flashback about how Valerie's parents met?
