Don't you Americans ever get sick of talking about race?

Ok first of all his friend was obnoxious, pathetic and obnoxious. Remember at the end how he points out to him they should stop rating women on scales of one to ten?

To the point. Race doesn't really exist. There is more difference between a whippet and a greyhound than there is between a Swede and an Aboriginal. Yes the cultures may be different. I'm a first generation myself. Where I come from, race is rarely a topic.

Why can't you all just enjoy one another, celebrate your differences. Think of yourselves as adventurers with curiosity and try to uncover the amazing differences and history that each of you all have.

I loved this movie, not because race had anything to do with it but because it is about a very lost guy who has no idea what he wants in life, who can't make up his mind who just bounces around like a pin ball between opportunities. He finally discovers what is important. Perhaps the only thing I find unrealistic is how incredibly nice all the women are in his life. Women, especially American women, are not forgiving, selfless, thoughtful and remembering as this, certainly not a teenage ones that fall out of love as quickly as they got into it. I didn't give a damn about his being Chinese other than it was fascinating his going back to China to discover his father's childhood home. The movie also covers people with tragic lives. We feel sorry for him and his father and are happy he reconciles with his father. One of the things that all there really is is family.
