what happened to the orignal inhabitants of the ship?

Remember when they took the new ship and there were skulls everywhere, what happened to its crew?

also

What was on the ground?

Why was jasper "disgraced" so to speak and in need of redeeming?

did he make it home or not?

i realize some of these questions may have no answers, in which case

Soon, that kid will be deader than steve Irwin in a tank full of stingrays!

As far as I can tell, when he was plotting a direction he was off, by 1 degree.
The ship then hit an iceberg or something and killing a crewmember.
As for everything else, I don't think there is an answer.

I believe one of "monsters" killed everyone on the ship (devouring their flesh) and then it died. The professor found the skeleton of the bird and feathers near the steering wheel - the same "bird" that was used as a lure to attract the navigator into the jungle with its viney tendrils. At least, that's what I think happened to the crew. They must have docked on the island, took some coccoons or had the monster sneak on board, then all hell broke loose.

When they died, the monster had nowhere to go and nothing left to eat, so it died on the deck.

Before Jasper rammed the iceberg to kill Dr. Belgon, Belgon had the keys in his hand, along with a gun. Later on, Jasper is holding the gun when he goes to check on the monster, so we can only assume that Belgon dropped both the keys and the gun as he fell overboard, and the keys fell where Jasper could reach them.

Ah, well, there IS talk of sequels, so it seems that Jasper did survive. Of course until I see it, it's open-ended and probably that's dramatically much more effective anyway. The Australian DVD includes an extra of the makers talking about their ideas for further silhouette-world stories, including another story set in Gothia, featuring their equivalent of a central computer network. I can't wait...

Ah, well, it's good that this person's opinion was vindicated! Ironically I got myself a DVD copy from ebay, since there is no Amazon.au, and it arrived while I was actually on holiday IN Australia. Mind you, I looked while I was there and couldn't find it at all in the shops in Perth, so ebay was clearly the best bet.

The thing I particularly love about this feature is that it reminds of the sort of sophisticated European animation I used to see as a kid, but executed on a much more epic level. I was excited by the possibility that there would be further adventures, hinted at by the open ending, and can't help but feel that this ought to be part 1 of a lengthy series. Oh well.
