shareI had a hard time coming to terms with it myself, so I understand exactly how you're feeling.
I'm fairly certain they were performing fellatio, which absolutely shocked me. Actually, for a greater portion of this movie, I was like "COME ON! As if that happens in real life! THESE GIRLS ARE FOURTEEN!" This movie wasn't very credible, in my eyes. It was possibly the weirdest and most awkward movie I've ever seen.
A lot of the movie made me cringe. While I'll readily admit that I laughed for some of it, it probably wasn't the right sort of laughing. When I mentioned it being awkward before, it's because I felt like there were so many times where there were silences when I was supposed to laugh, but didn't. Half this movie was just awkward silences.
I myself am a sixteen-year-old girl, and I couldn't believe half of the stuff that was going on in this movie. Then again, I'm from Melbourne; maybe they do things differently in Adelaide?
That aside, I suppose the movie sends out a good message, but still, they could've done it in a slightly more credible way.
I've just been agreeably perusing a volume bearing the appellation of "The Thesaurus".share
heh. It has nothing to do with their location, it has to do with the sorts of girls they're supposed to be. Yes, some girls do do that sort of thing that early.

It was quite obvious I thought. While shocking - I thought it was handled as tastefully as possible - and the scene was quite cleverly directed. You see Esther start to bow her head and then you get that strange scene where it says 'THE ESTHER BLUEBURGER SHOW'. I noted that the neon sign had the 'R' in Esther in the format of the 'R' rating symbol. Quite clever I though.
Oh and I hate to shock people here - and although it is quite sad, there are 13-14 year old girls out there who are probably feeling pressures of growing up, fitting in etc. who do go down on guys, and even have sex. It was happening when I was at High School (so when I was 13-14 was 13 years ago now) so I dare say it happens now - sadly at a larger level I would think.
On that note I felt the scene a tiny bit confronting, especially when we see Esther bring her head back up and says "so who's next?". I thought the scene (much like the movie) was directed better than it was written.
This scene has been cut from the Region 1 DVD distributed in the US, probably to preserve a USA PG-13 rating so they could market it to kids. Ironic, since the whole film, uhhh, sucks...
Yeah, I'm from the U.S., and I was going to say that I didn't remember this scene when I watched the film!

I just posted about this in another thread. Yes, with these additional bits of info on that scene visually and in dialog it's definite that it was censored and cut differently in the version I just saw on US cable. It's not that the whole scene is missing, they just cut out most of the middle part of it, which, with the dialog before and after the missing part, made it sound like they were only talking about kissing.
