Hisaishi's Score

Hi. I note that this is the first Chinese/Hong Kong movie Joe Hisaishi's done the film score. I'm a big fan of his work, but I've been kind of disappointed with his work in more recent films like Dolls and Howl's Moving Castle. I sure hope he's not losing his touch.

So, how is the music in this film?

I just finished watching the film and quite liked the score. It's very obviously his, like a Danny Elfman score if very obviously an Elfman score, but it didn't sound like a clone of any particular score I've heard before.

Since I'm used to his Miyazaki scores, the bombast and energy in the fighting scenes was a nice change of pace.

I liked it a lot. It was very moving. It wasn't as memorable as the Castle in the Sky theme or Laputa, but better than Howl by far, and memorable enough. In other words, he hasn't lost his touch. Just wish he would score one of the better Chinese films rather than this kind of lunar new year comedy crap.

When i watched this, i was going wow this movie is stealing too much music from Joe Hisaishi (a lot of low budget chinese shows tend to take lots of music from japanese stuff), and low and behold they actually got him to do it. Sweat. Also i kinda of agree Howls lost a little magic.

If it walks like cancer, talks like cancer...it's lupus.
