for all of those confused......

The diner is where she encounters all of the seven deadly sins...ending in wrath in the form of jeremy sisto.

The only thing I am confused about is I posted on another imdb forum for a movie Broken also made in 2006 thinking it was this movie until I finally looked at the cast. HA!

This is how I look at at.

She was the drug addict, all of the people in the diner were people in her head that she wanted to be. The different decisions you have to make. There was no Will in reality, he was the destructive part of her personality, her ID (psych.) That's why when she shot him, she woke up and decided to change her life, she killed the destructive force in her mind. It's like the movie Identity (even has one of the actors from it).

She was the one who slept with the drug dealer, she was not forced. The lady who keeps watching turns out to be the real waitress, and what does she do, she sneaks in on her taking drugs. This probably pissed HOPE of which is why she/Will shot her in her mind.

I think the movie is about Hopelessness, but that at the end there's hope.

I think that's a very coherent explanation of the film and the one that makes the most logical sense to me. The scene where Hope actually IS each of the characters in the diner lends credence to your explanation. Thank you for it.

I agree! I think that is an excellent explanation for the film.

It reminded me of a David Lynch type of film - sort of like Mulholland Drive.

I enjoyed it. I don't know why so many disliked it. I guess it all depends on taste though. To each 'is own.

I third or fourth that..thanks for the clarification. I've never had the opportunity to watch this in it's entirety; every time I always manage to catch it when it's well into a half hour. I finally saw the ending and I was a bit befuddled by it..but that explanation of yours makes sense.

Is that bean juice? Human Being juice.

I enjoyed the movie. It makes sense but I do think that some people don't look deeply when they watch a film. It's deeper than most.

that Will either didn't exist or didn't possess her to the extent we are at first lead to believe. The snake tattoo on Will's stomach is soon duplicated on Hope's lower back. In the OD scene when the dishwasher is helping her out he raises up her sweater and there is no tattoo there. REALLY that was the first big hint to me that something was up. The FIRST hint was when the drug dealer came in and all the other folks except his customers were gone.
