It could be because your watching a parody of your own personality type. 9/10 times I've seen that is the case.
I live in Norwich and people either love alan or hate him.
The ones who hate him usually post overly nationalistic stuff to fb and state that the refugees would 'sink this island'

shareHa ha OP spot on I have family in Norfolk and they all have a weird affection for the character and get the joke. Im guessing some people are a bit touchy about laughing about themselves or enviroment.

The movie even had the 'a fine city' sign in it at the start. It's forever on film.
