Agreed, it was ridiculous.
If you want to make them "red in blood", choose white ones that will be stained with blood during the horror scenes. Simple and effective, no? Or even better, choose red shoes to begin with. Problem solved.
Calling a film "the red shoes" and yet picking fuchsia high heels is beyond stupid.
There was either an error with the translation or just a plain and simple fail.

Boycott movies that involve real animal violence! (and their directors too)

the film page actually lists Hans Christian Anderson as writer, is there a fairytale with the title Red Shoes?

She had that pair of red shoes at the start, and her husband scolded her !!!

Yes, there is a Hans Christian Anderson tale of a pair of cursed red shoes that caused the main character in it to die because she couldnt stop dancing and couldnt take them off. I think that is why the movie is called The Red Shoes and not because of the color (pinkish)

Colors are perceived differently in different languages. Some see pink as a lighter shade of red, while others see a lighter shade of blue an entirely seperate color (like pink).

This sentence has nothing to do with what I just have written above.

She didn't die, at least not in my copy of Hans Christian Anderson fairytale. She simply cut her feet off to free herself from the Devil's grip then devoted herself to nunary. This was after many, many years.

It's one of those few fairytales that actually still scares me that I flick pass those pages without even glancing at the title.

It is indeed called The Red Shoes.

As for the Pink shoes ~ I am guessing most of the people on this board had seen this movie online or something. In the actual copy, the shoes are indeed Red.

Let me explain to you what was explained to me:

In Korea, all shades of red (pink included) are "red". So when they got shoes for the movie, they chose the pink shoes as they were a popular shade of "red" in their fashion world. Seeing as in american and english culture we tend to make up names for every variation of red imaginable, it would be hard for them to translate "Magenta" or whatever color the shoes are for the sake of a movie. So to them, the shoes are "red", because they made the movie for Koreans, not for the english.

Is it? I read somewhere, since most people have either seen the movie online or something else, that the actual copy had Red coloured shoes. It was only through the coding or some sort that the shoes ended up looking Pink-ish.

Btw - most people on imdb.com are classified under Western audience or are filed under Bearing Western Sensibilities. Hence, this frequent reaction towards movies outside USA and Europe being viewed as the same as the films released in these respective countries. Most of these viewers view these films within their culture: upbringing, social, consumption, etc. Ignorant of other cultures beyond.
Hence, this is probably the reason why there is an upstart imdb.com pseudo site aimed specifically at East Asian cinema. Currently in the works last time I checked.

I used to own the USA DVD of this movie, & the shoes were a gharish shade of PINK, so quit blaming it on "Americans who illegally downloaded the movie online". I've also read lots of reviews of this movie's USA DVD, ALL of which complain about this. In fact, ALL of the movie's color scheme was skewed. I'm assuming that this movie's Korean DVD's color scheme was more accurate, which makes the USA DVD's skewed color scheme seem lazy & sloppy by comparison.

On a vaguely related subject, some people said that on the Korean DVD there's an alternate ending where the mom lives & her daughter is killed. Leave it to the USA DVD to get shafted on that.
