It's a lot like Love Actually. The different storylines but also the theme, Sinterklaas, just like you have Christmas in Love Actually. And of course it's a romantic comedy, a good one, not as bad as other romcoms, especially the ones made in the Netherlands.

The thought did cross my mind when I heard about this movie. And although I hate to admit it, I really liked Love Actually so I might give this one a chance as well.

English and Dutch humor are very different...
I love them both. Can't say which is better but I can't wait to go see Alles is Liefde again...

I really liked Alles Is Liefde, but I agree it is a lot like Love Actually. There was originally a lesbian couple in Love Actually, according to the deleted scenes section on the DVD... But anyway, I would definitely call Alles Is Liefde a Dutch version of Love Actually. The only difference is that they didn't take the exact same storylines, but the whole structure and idea is the same.

But then again "Love, Actually" had coloured people as protagonists, actually. I guess there's only white people living in Amsterdam.

reply

Yeah that's so strange. I expected the makers of the movie to put at least one coloured person in it, seen the fact that 40% of the people living in Amsterdam is in fact coloured.

But apart from that, the movie is great and it is indeed a lot like Love Actually. Well, the whole idea of the movie is, with all the story-lines and stuff.

reply

What does it matter

it's a great film, so just enjoy and don't worry about things that aren't necessary to make a great film

who cares if there are black, yellow or purple people play in it

just go and see it

Actually, the script is indeed based on Love Actually.
And actually, this movie got more visitors in the Netherlands in the first 3 weeks than Love Actually!

"And actually, this movie got more visitors in the Netherlands in the first 3 weeks than Love Actually!"

Big deal. Every country would achieve the same thing if they use all the local stars and use the native language. It doesn't say anything about the quality.

BUT I did like this movie, I think I liked Love Actually slightly more.

It bothers me a bit that this movie is almost a copy of the amazing 'love actually'.

It bothers me because we have such good writers in the Netherlands that we didnt need a dutch 'love actually'.

But then i must say 'beter goed gejat dan slecht bedacht'...

Im looking forward to 'Moordwijven'.

Dude its a copy...

reply

Just the fact that there are 6 story lines makes it a copy...?
Because the story lines itself are compeletly different...

Of course it's a copy. Several love stories with characters that intertwine in one way or another, all during the holidays.
I'm sure none of the people who worked on it will deny it, so why would anyone else?

But I have to say I'm getting pretty tired of "The Dutch version of..."

A TV show called Rozengeur & Wodka Lime was promoted as the Dutch Sex and the City (and yet hardly any resemblance other than 4 woman being somewhat open about sex...which a lot of people are in Holland anyway...).

A film called "Kicks" was the Dutch "Crash".

And now "Alles is liefde" is the Dutch "Love, Actually".

If you like a foreign movie so much, just remake it and add your own culture.
But in my opinion this country could use some originality in genre films, and MORE genre films!! The Dutch Film Fund seems to not want profit...

reply

People that really know good film and respect it will agree with you that Holland needs originality.
But the truth is, the rest doesn't... People wil mostly see a film because it's supposed to be a dutch version or just because 1 person is in it. Can you imagine how many people saw Afblijven because Jim was in it...?
I saw hundreds of girls come in and talk through the movie and shut up when he entered...

I kinda agree with you, but it doesn't make it right.
Give them a good movie that IS original and they'll keep wanting more. They WILL learn that this is better and demand that movie (and tv) makers make more effort.
I saw Afblijven on dvd to have a laugh, and boy did I laugh....it's so bad...
