BINGO

NolanTards are snobs

They love proclaiming that The Dark Knight, in being so “realistic”, is somehow the most true to the dark, psychologically intense world of Batman. They say this because:
(a) They want to convince themselves that Batman comics really are intended to be this realistic and intense and
(b) They want to convince others that what they read is so realistic and intense so that they can feel less embarrassment at still reading them in their 20s and 30s. The reason they overrate that movie so much is because so much personal validation is tied into that movie for them. So the more realistic the movies are, the more comic fans will claim to anyone who will listen that they just witness a movie that is exactly like the books they’ve been mocked for reading for decades.

What a bunch of made up bullshit. Nolan fanboys dont give a shit about the comics at all. They certainly dont believe the comics are realistic and are glad the movie version is updated to be grounded in reality. That's literally the reason they hold the movie in high regard. The problem is, other than Joker's appearance, this movie is as much a fantasyland as the comics.

I mean, yeah. No one said you can't have a great acting performance in an extremely overrated movie. Without Heath this movie goes from overrated to trash.

Heath Ledger's performance is perfect, but the the rest of the film is uneven, especially its ending. It's a slightly above-average superhero film with one stellar performance, but not deserving of the praise it gets.

With the exception of Memento, which I think was pretty amazing, Christopher Nolan is the most overrated filmmaker of all time. His Batman movies in particular are his worst. Though I give BIG props to Ledger and Oldman for their respective performances. And the Harvey Dent story arc was actually pretty well conceived even if it was thrown into the cluster fuck of what is called The Dark Knight.

His first two Batman movies were good. Batman Begins is an awesome superhero movie, it's the best superhero movie of all time IMO. And TDK is as good as Raimi's Spider-Man 1 and 2, Blade, and the few great X-Men movies

Overrated =/= bad. I can't take seriously the opinion that TDK is a bad movie. It doesn't matter if Heath Ledger carried the film, which he largely did. His performance is a part of the film and it's one of the greatest acting performances of all time

And I'm not a Nolan fanboy. His last solid movie was Inception, and even Inception had major problems. His worst movies are The Dark Knight Rises, Dunkirk, and Tenet. Basically he's been on a downhill slide

The Batman franchise GROUNDED Nolan in something. Original works like Interstellar and Tenet exposed him because he didn't have the limitations of any source material to tether his ego to reality. Interstellar and Tenet are just nonsense. They're like Inception but without the escapist appeal, they're just a chore to watch

Memento and The Prestige are his best films, followed by Batman Begins, TDK, and Inception. Everything he has made since then has basically lowered his stock. You can't say that his Batman films are his worst when they were what made him hyped up as the next Kubrick/Spielberg in the first place

I agree with much of what you're saying; Nolan's a great filmmaker, but he's not quite as good as people think.

I find it odd that people equate "overrated" with "bad" because they are definitely different terms.

The order of Nolan films is different for me, but I generally agree that his earlier stuff seems to be better. George Lucas syndrome? Nobody reigning him in?

Now, I cannot speak to Dunkirk and Tenet, which I have not yet seen, but I do like The Prestige and Memento and Inception. I think the latter might be my favourite of his work - a good balance of Nolan's unfettered imagination but which hasn't seemed to run away with him the way Interstellar did (although I didn't care for the final shot in Inception, but...that's a whole other stew).

I really liked Following, as well.

And, yes, BB and TDK are great, but TDKR was a disappointment.

I have a first date test involving this series. If they are big Dark Knight fans 9 times outta 10 they are straight up jerks.
