People miss the point of this movie

I read tons of reviews talking about the state of South African Youth, inaccuracies, etc. But the movie was simple, it was about a emotionally hardened guy who had to face his demons and issues. It had nothing to do with a commentary on South Africa and everything to do with the human condition and how even the most hardened criminals are that way for a very simple, human reason. Something in their lives made them switch off their emotions and shut them out. This movie is about conquering anger and letting go of hurtful past experiences. Everyone should be able to relate.

I thought the movie had incredible acting and made you feel what the characters were going through.

I think its funny taht when someone ina forgein country makes a movie, people automatically assume its an allagory for that country (i.e every movie made in, or about South Africa MUST be about the effects of apartheid)

It sounds a lot like Hood's other fine film "A Reasonable Man". It had much to say about turning off a part of one's self. I recommend it highly to others.

People take away different things from films. There's nothing wrong with that.

The OP is absolutely right, that's what it was about, plain and simple. There's a lot of dumb comments on this board on the meaning and purpose of this powerful little film.

Tsotsi finally found something that made him bleed on the inside, like Boston was asking about

I agree that this film is more than a statement about South Africa. It is more profound than "conquering anger and letting go of hurtful past experiences"; it's about trauma upon trauma visited upon a child until he is destroyed inside. Not everyone can relate to this, thankfully I guess.

Tsotsi's crimes are adult but inside he is a traumatised boy.
