Underrated

I'm very surprised this movie has a 4.5 rating here.

Of course I admit the movie has some flaws, like several cliche moments and somewhat uneven editing(intro scene, fuzzy lion perspective, hollywood ending), but overall it was a very enjoyable experience. It's rare for films these days to make me care for its character, but I found myself doing just that in this movie. Take the scene where the daughter gets help from the poachers; I literately cross my arms and ponder how that was going to play out. A fine example of suspense building and truly genuine acting in that particular scene.

The cinematography and cinema work were also noteworthy. Very beautiful wide angle landscape shots and expressive facial and eyes closeups. The acting wasn't bad at all, and I found all the actors to be quite believable and relate-able.

In summary I would rate this film a solid 7.5, maybe even an 8 had I seen it at the theaters. How or why it's rated so low on imdb is beyond me.

Your either the king of sarcasm, or unbelievably stupid. How often do you see movies because you obviously don't have much to compare this one to. This movie did not make me care for the characters. I actually loathed them purely because they were so stupid. I wanted to punch my TV. As far as suspense is concerned, this movie has none. And I can't really relate to the characters as my IQ is higher than the number of deaths in the movie. I think the 4.5 rating is generous.

Ya I agree with you. This movie did not make me care for the characters the only thing i wanted to do was jump into the movie and strangle the teenage girl myself. There was zero suspense i just wanted them all to get eaten and be done with it.

reply

Yeah, this was so bad it was painful. I gave it a 2/10.

I agree, this film was good.It was very daring to take on a lion for the animal attack sequence, and they pulled it off.It worked for me.I gave it a 7.3

I agree. I felt for the Step Mom, it was realistic. People just want to hate. There are movies for this (Superman Returns for example), but this is a great genre piece. Superior to "Black Water" in most ways. I still think "The Edge" was the best animal attack movie ever!

I came into this movie thinking it was nothing more than a B movie, and with that in mind I thought it did a great job. Of course it was completely unbelievable and ridiculous, but I wasn't really watching it for a true story about lions. One of the parts I liked most was when the guide was attacked and fell against the window of the car. I really felt I could understand the horror the three members of the family had to go through watching a man's life literally ripped away without there being anything they could do to help.

For a B-movie with an animal-horror-theme, despite all the cliche characters and situations, it was fun to watch. I can`t understand the low rating either.

The animal attacks looked quite realistic, and there was not much CGI involved (compared to "Ghost & Darkness", a film I also like). The sequence where the front window was cracking was also really chilling. A bit like "Open Water" with lions, only better.

Cons:
The final explosion was a bit overdone. And the girl kid was sooo annoying. I wish she got eaten.

Im watching this movie RIGHT now, 30ish something minutes into it and, well besides the great scenery and the lions.. i gotta say this was an expectant piece of...well.. NOT a good movie. a 4..maybe a 5.5.
Very much cliche and ZERO suspense.
I particularly didnt care about any of the characters really. Was watching it out of boredom.

True, the kids reaction can be somewhat explainable..
Difficult teenager, dealing with parents divorce and a step mom, etc etc and young clueless kid.' i need to go, go'... 'wheres the guide'.. etc

I'll be your devil if you'll admit you're mine

I thought the scene where the girl goes with poacher was an interesting one. Suddenly I was more worried about the girl getting raped than eaten by a lion. The tension focused on those two held up enough that I wasn't expecting it when the shot was fired from back at the car.

Agreed. I thought this film was quite gripping and suspenseful. 8 out of 10 from me.
