A "strange turn you won't see coming"? (SPOILERS)

Yo La Tenga provides the atmospheric score, setting the stage for a strange turn you won't see coming.

What's this referring to? I have seen this and I don't remember any "strange turn". I did start another thread in which I noted that at one point it seemed like it might turn into a weird murder movie...but then it didn't. Is that what this writer means, that you start thinking something is going to happen but it doesn't?

The feeling I got from the end with Kurt wandering the streets was that it offered the flip side to his free lifestyle, showing him in the city with no family or real purpose, just waiting to see what would come along.

I wish it would have had any plot turns.

I guess the bathtub massage could have been a lot turn, like the guy was massagespd bi, but it was a very innocent massage but his wedding band goes underwater, so maybe that is a sign.
