Did this movie even get a wide American release when it came out?

First of all this movie stunk. But was it weird to anyone else the two most evil roles in this were played by Americans? Basically the only Americans in the film was the guy who created the monster by randomly pouring out chemicals into the river and the cross eyed (?!?!) doctor who says hes crazy bc he has the disease but also there is no disease and they've all been lying about it but lets still cut out his brain. Bananaland. Both really random and evil things and both by Americans so i gotta wonder. But like i said, I hated this movie and so little of it made sense so maybe that's it or the director has some complex about Americans. I dunno but weird and kinda struck me
