The CG in this is Has Not Aged Well
Not sure what all the hype is about, not even a decade later and the CG is terribly dated, not a great monster movie either IMO.

shareYou must be joking. I recently rewatched the LotR trilogy, now there's CG that hasn't aged well, and that's a 300 million dollar mega project. The Host is almost 10 years old and the monster still looks f*#king great. Except for at the end when he's on fire, but good CG fire is a problem even today.
Concerning it not being a great monster movie, you're sort of right. But this isn't a typical monster movie. Note how nearly all the characters have depth to them, instead of being cardboard cut-outs for the monster to eat. It's a monster movie family drama, which isn't everyone. Gave it a 7/10 myself, it has some great moments but it's about 20 minutes too long.
I think most Korean movies are overly long. This, The Wailing, and a slew of horror movies. The... pacing... is... just... so... languid.
shareThe film's hype wasn't all about its CGI, it was more about the inventive cinematography, multi-dimensional characters and surprising thematic depth.
shareit looked good to me, personally I prefer a practical effect rather than the usual generic cgi hollywood monster
If people were trying to bring you DOWN, that means you were ABOVE them.
