I had Low Expectations Before Seeing it

Being a fan of Ben Mezrich's book's (Bringing Down the House and Breaking Vegas) which are being made into a movie about counting cards in blackjack I took a chance with this movie Hit Me. I stumbled upon it one night while at my local video store and figured it would not be a great move but it did involve card counting so what the hell. It was about as bad as I expected so in that aspect I was not disappointed. The plot it-self was not that bad and it looked with a little more money in the budget (only $70,000) and some better actors it could have been better.

Dan is a math whiz who answers an ad looking for people good at math, Alicia who placed the ad immediately likes Dan so she brings him into the card counting scheme. The woman who played Alicia was a terrible actor, it seemed like she was reading cue cards the whole movie, I kept waiting for her to look at the camera and say "Live from NY it is Saturday Night Live". There were several plot holes and some meaningless scenes that left me wondering why they were in there at all. They did get the obligatory nudity when Dan goes to a strip club. There was scene where they led up to believe that Dan and Alicia hooked up and had they played that angle better it probably would have worked. Not to mention Alicia is good looking so any nude scene with her would have bumped this movie up. The movie was and felt like it was a low budget indy film they could have brought in a better producer and director. The Cinematography was not very good either. 21 will be out in 2007 starting Kevin Spacey and I have a hunch it will be better than Hit Me. I have seen worse movies..... I think!
