Somewhat similar film, and 10x better-

Shelter(2007) Similar basic plot device, but executed much better. Yeah it's budget is way higher, but The Conrad boys really did mainly suffer from subpar acting. Charlie demands a much better portrayal of his struggles, and you see that much better in Shelter. I like Jordan- presented well, predictable, yet cute character overall. The dad was lacking extremely in development though.

I agree with the comment of the wheelier. Shelter has been and will always be the BEST gay film IMHO. I find Trevor Wright acted so SUPERBLY as a confused and ingenue gay boy who recently come out. Although he is straight presumably, he acts gay so real and believable than ALL of the gay actors in gay films who are mostly stereotyped of the sissy, effeminate twinks. Just go and rent the film SHELTER. You will be moved as i did. Beautiful, beautiful film....

It may be true that Shelter had a higher budget (and so better actors) but still there are some obvious flaws in Conrad Boys. For instance, the relationship between Charlie and Ben is not that warm. Many times it appears as if Charlie is taking care of Ben just because there is no alternative. However in Shelter, Zach is looking after Cody so well that Cody considers him his father!

However, hats off to Justin Lo for writing, acting, directing, editing and producing this movie. He should have made more movies.

So much to see, so little time!
