Remarkable Documentary

This was a remarkable documentary. Can't say I've ever seen anything like this... it is so intimate and so candidly done. It's a beautiful, messy, layered, thick portrait of a marriage, of a family, of human love and realationships and of the American family all at once. It is subtly moving yet not emotionally manipulative. See it now! I imagine this is a film that every day Americans will flock to see if there is enough of a buzz, and hopefully not just the arthouse crowd.

I completely agree. This was a very rare piece of film-making...it was undeniably warm and tender, and yet somehow maintained a level of objectivity which must be nearly impossible to achieve from so deep within the family unit.

It would be a tremendous shame if this documentary was not seen by the masses, but judging by how lifeless this board is, that looks like being the case.

This documentary was so moving that it had me in tears nearly through the
whole program. It was truly amazing to watch the story unfold, and see how the
people in our lives shape who we are and who we become.

I loved that his sister called it the most expensive home movie ever. The wealth of material he had from years of filming and all the pictures was so striking.

I was very taken with Rabbi too and how the Rabbi didn't question wanting to read the diaries, but did question about publicizing them. It was a nice distinction to make with a man obviously making some sort of film.

I was also struck with how open, yet articulate everyone was when speaking to the camera. This is obviously a smart, thoughtful family. An honest family too. If any of you still read this board, thank you for your candor. It was admirable.

Finally, I just loved his dad. He starts off vaguely as the villain and ends up a very sweet man who has the guts to reach out for more life. I can see why the family was pained when he remarried so quickly. It was galling. But at 83, things do need to move quickly. It's interesting too that his first wife had an inkling that Kitty would make a better match for him ultimately.
