Worst wedding toast ever

Ouch, that was painfull, I was cringing through that entire thing.

Joking about not knowing the step mother's name or what she was like... wow, such poor taste it's not even funny. Even if it's true you don't joke about it during the toast!

Yes but I think the much deeper point is that this is a film about not knowing what to make of this new relationship and what is it that one either knows or doesn't know about their parents (which the parents themsevles get to discover as they grow older). This is not a film about wedding etiquette. I think I would have felt somewhat distrubed by this immediate transition after my mother's death and it probably would have come out sideways like this however inappropriate it may have looked.

I agree. It showed just how difficult it was to grapple with the situation, but I have to admit, I wouldn't have brought up the whole bad history, just looked forward. It was inappropriate, but no surprise.

I agree it is painful, but that is what makes this documentary great. A lesser documentarian would not have included something that doesn't show him in such good light. I'm sure he looks at it now and cringes, but knew it would make the documentary stronger for including it.

Well, yeah. I suspect at least one of the sisters was crying in the bathroom at some point during the party too. Three months. Twelve weeks after your mother dies and dad remarries a beaming, happy woman who cheerfully ignores three very chilly children.

Kitty's a tough person, no doubt. If she can make their father happy, kudos to her, but she's no pushover and I'm pretty sure didn't let that toast bother her at all. There was a 12 second kiss during the cake cutting.
