Were Holly and Hef really 'in love'?

I was just wondering what everyones thoughts were.

For me, I'd say no. I think Holly just tries to take on her signifacant other's qualities so that they think they're perfect for each other. Once her Criss Angel started dating, Holly started to dress differently. Also around the time there were rumors circulating that Holly and Criss were dating, for Holly's final pictorial for Playboy she did it underwater with chains...it definitely reminded me of the Criss Angel Mind Freak Show. She also wasn't a number 1 girlfriend for some time...if people were soulmates and meant for each other don't you think they'd notice before some time?

Another thing that bothered me is that she called Crystal the old her or something along those lines? Holly looks like all the other ex gfs! She even got her nose modeled after Barbie Benton because Hef loved it so much. Holly went through extensive plastic surgery for Hef...if two people were really in love I don't think they'd make each other get plastic surgery.

And if Hef was really in love with Holly wouldn't he have married her? He was separated from his wife. Shortly after the Holly-Hef split then he applies for divorce? I thought maybe he did it after that relationship so he didn't have to marry Holly in addition to his sons being 18.

What are your thoughts?

I like Crystal way better than Holly. I like Holly maybe a little more than the twins. They all seem completely fake. I hated Holly I'm happy that she's finally gone.

That's what happens when an eighty-plus year old man lives with and dates three women and no one in the cocktail (no pun intended) thinks anything is wrong with the picture.

"Burn, Hollywood, Burn!"- from the incomparable album "Fear of a Black Planet" by Public Enemy.

I completely agree. I think Holly is just as fake as she looks. Its obvious she doesn't like Kendra and feels threatened by her because Hef spotted her out and wanted her, and with Holly she had to work her way up to get Hef's attention.
I like Crystal better she seems like a more genuine person. I feel like people forget the girlfriends at the Playboy mansion are kind of like a revolving door. Hef doesn't really ever stay single (maybe for 24 hours LOL). Hef uses the girlfriends for his image, and the girls use Hef for the fame that can come or the money and lifestyle. Simple as that. If Holly ever saw Hef without fame walking down the street would she actually think they're soulmates? Or if they even lived in the same area..do you think they would notice each other? Very doubtful.

If I were going ONLY by watching the show, I would agree. But if you watch the DVD with the commentary, EVEN on season one, they are really good friends and DO NOT hate each other. Editing can make someone look however the director WANTS them to look. I will definitely admit that if I had never seen it with their comments, I would COMPLETELY AGREE with you, and add that Holly had some animosity toward Bridget at times as well.

Rent the DVD from Netflicks and do the commentary option, you will laugh, get the real truth about the episode (and people IN them), and get a different perspective on them.

well, i watched every episode so far with commentary on and up until season 3 i felt really sorry for kendra! there was some major subliminal animosity towards her. basically holly and bridget did the commentary all by themselves, laughing and being considered with each other, while at the same time punishing kendra either with cold silence or worse, not letting her finish one sentence without interruption.

it's around season 4 when holly was suddenly all about being good friends and making compliments. now the commentary was probably made around one or two years after the actual season was filmed. to that time kendra was already engaged to hank baskett.

so either those two really got closer and buried their differences, or holly was just playing it nice out of practical reasons. she was really the only of those three i could never put my finger on. i don't know what her problem is. i liked her scenes the most throughout the whole show maybe up to season 4, but from then on and also when i started listening to the commentary from the earlier seasons, she came of as a pretty dishonest person.

i also find it quiet funny how she was bad mouthing about the twins, during a time when the twins were saying she was like a best friend to them and the coolest person around. she more and more comes of as the type of person that
keeps her friends (in case she has any) close, but her enemies even closer. that's the worst human flaw one can have, if you ask me.

Movies aren't real.It's take 22. The girl's bored, the guy's gay.It's celluloid propaganda.

^^It was Crystal who called Holly the old her. I don't think Holly said anything mean about Crystal as of yet. Maybe she might in the future but so far she's been keeping her mouth shut about the new girls.

No, she didn't

Holly trashes the Girls next door:

In an interview with Fox News, former Girls Next Door girl Holly Madison takes a few shots at her replacements, twins Karissa and Kristina Shannon and Crystal Harris.

While she was happy to hang out with Hef and the gals when they came out to see her burlesque revue Peepshow, Madison reveals,

"I don't watch the other episodes though, because it kind of makes me mad. The girls need to focus on what makes them unique and not doing the same things Bridget, Kendra and I have already done on the show. Even camping in the backyard was an idea I had for an episode that we never got around to shooting. And guess what they just showed? The girls camping in the backyard. I don't want to look behind, I want to look forward.”

These statement are not trashing the new girls at all. Shes just remarking that they need to be themselves and not try to be clones of the her, Bridget and Kendra. I think its a valid observation. The show may have the same name and the same premise-- but they are different girls and need to be who they are and do new things.

I think Holly was in love with Hef, but she was really obsessed too. She changed everything about herself for him which nobody should have to do. It still doesn't mean she didn't love him but it wasn't healthy kind of love.

From Hef's part, I'm not sure. They were together for a long time and he said many times he wants to spend the rest of his life with her. But doesn't he say that about all his #1 girlfriends? Holly was useful for Hef too. She played the Stepford wife all the way and never made him choose between her and the other gf's.

reply

i agree with some of the posts above.

I also think she was very jealous of other girls getting close to Hef and she was possessive over hef and she clearly has self confidence issues.

I saw Soooo Many episodes where she chooses to stay with Hef over hanging out with the girls. She was always very focused on always being with hef and calling him up every few hours when she is away. I think it's to do with her being scared of being replaced. She knows very well if she is gone for more than a day. Hef would wonder off and find a new replacement.

I Think that's her reason for calling him every few hours and it's not to do with wanting to talk to him. It's More to do with Reminding him that she is still there and for him to not pick up any new girls.

It's Very Obvious on the episode where they came home late and Missed Movie night and on the way home Holly kept saying. I wonder who is sitting next to hef. Which girl and they talked about how the girl sitting next to Hef could probably be his next girlfriend. Holly was Not happy!!!

reply

i think she was more into Hef than Hef into her.
She was probably his fav but she was only one of his girlfriends and she knew it.I understand she was jealous of the other women because she knew she was NOT THE ONE .
Holly Maddison always was classier than Harris because she never said bad words about Hef and always wanted his good (even if it was not with her)

reply

She did seem like she really loved him.

reply

Holly was in love with being in love and basically playing a "role" on the show. As for Hef, he has a big heart and loves everyone, even the girls that use him in every possible way just to have a possible shot at brief fame through him and cheat on him and lie to him. He's used to it. Lots of revolving doors.

How many blonde 20-somethings do you know fall in love with rich men in their 80s?

reply

Well, I guess the answer is ZERO.

reply

Holly is about to release a book called Down The Rabbit Hole: Curious Adventures and Cautionary Tales of a Former Playboy Bunny. From the sounds of it, I would have to say NO.

Don't let anyone ever make you feel like you don't deserve what you want.

reply

No she didn't love him, they are all just part of this act Hefner has of pretending these young blondes are at all attracted to him. They are just decoration for him and I doubt any of them would ever let him have sex with them. I sometimes doubted she even slept in his room. With that said, she was my favorite of the 3 and I loved her.

Having read Holly's book and also watching the show, I would like to believe that Holly did at one time love Hef. I think Holly had low self esteem and was trying to will herself into thinking this relationship would work and that they were truly in love.

Hef was so set in his ways and had some definite ideas about structure, control and keeping up appearances. Eventually, it weared thin on Holly and I think not being able to have children with him was the final realization that there was more out there for her.

reply

No. The reason that Holly didn't stay away overnight was because as head girlfriend she wasn't allowed to. There were a couple of episodes that show her freaking out at being well past curfew. Being gf #1 meant being there for Hef 24/7. Otherwise yes, Holly was trying to convince herself it was a 'real' relationship.

reply

Nope, Hef wasn't in love with her. If you read Holly Madison's Book 'Down the Rabbit Hole', you will find out that Holly along with the other girls were just arm candy to him. Holly believed she was in love with him at one point but, she considered Hef to be her captor and she feel in love with through the Stockholm Syndrome effect (which means that the person falls in love with their captor).
