Is this a kid's movie? I watched it and I don't think so...

There is one scene where the main character/child runs away during a town evacuation when the monsters are fighting. His father chases him, tells him how worried he is and slaps him across the face. Hard.
My wife and I were shocked to see this scene as we thought Gamera was very child-friendly and to start with, this movie had a nice atomosphere.
I could have lived without this one scene, but I wonder if it will be cut from the American release version?

Kids can relate to being punished by their parents.
I didn't think this was a particularly good movie, however.

It's simply a matter of difference in culture. In Japan they believe in discipling childern. In America they believe in childern doing whatever they want and then complaining that society/TV/video games are to blame when the law arrests their brats.
