VIDEOETA.COM has announced that Media Blasters will release the official US DVD on December 30th, 2008. It was originally announced as a 2008 release, so I guess they made us wait untill the last minute. This date has been confirmed by JOBLO.COM so we get a late Christmas present! Target normally carries the Gamera titles as they come out as does Best Buy. AMAZON.COM is always a good plan B if you have the patience to wait.
Media Blasters has delayed the DVD release with no new date. Tokyo Shock is a subsidiary of Media Blasters and is the official distributor. If you want to complain (I did)...
Media Blasters 265 West 40th Street Suite 700 New York, NY 10018
None of the big electronic chains (Best Buy, Circuit City, Tower Records) have them in stock. Amazon and Ebay have Region 3 and region free DVD's but beware that they are not playable (region 3) or playable but subtitled only (region0).
The few that I can find on Ebay are selling them as pre-orders. I have asked each of them and the few who DO respond, state that they don't yet have the DVD's in hand.
I'm convinced that they'll be out in the next few tuesdays (Jan 13th or 20th) and are probably having some minor liscencing issue or DVD authoring problems.
Now all big chain stores report that this as being a Backorder item and wont be shipping for around 2 weeks time. I averaged out the estimated arrival time for the DVD being in your mailbox between 2/7/2009-2/17/2009.
This is rather dissapointing, as the delay seems to be due to a major, rather than a minor problem in production/manufacturing. Still no response from Media Blasters or Tokyo Shock via email (I am harassing them often for updates).
At least we have now something to wait for other than the Cloverfield 2 trailer.
I noticed that too. I was expecting to see something about this movie on the site, but not even a "coming soon" trailer. I'm starting to wonder if Media Blasters is going the way of ADV.
i heard somewhere that there was a problem with the english dubbing or something but still to not advertise the movie at all and leave no news on it. I know they haven't had any trouble with their other releases though like the Great Yokai War. I predict we won't see Gamera till summer time the soonest. kinda sucks i was really excited for this
OK..I believe that it's finally here. Best Buy.com no longer has this movie listed as back-ordered. Unfortunately, it looks like they are only ofering it online. I just bought my copy and I'll let you know when I get it. If Best Buy has it...It's safe to assume that everyone has it that planned on carrying it.
I'm wondering if this could be a low production run DVD? It would be cool if it became rare like the 35th Anniversary Edition of the Godzilla vs King Kong DVD. Good luck finding THAT version!
I have a legit Region 1 copy in my hands. I would recommend anyone wanting this to go ahead and order it from a reputable site or store. It seems this may end up being an online only item. I cannot find this DVD in any store's inventory when I search thier site...only available through online purchase.
Now that the wait is over...any fan of Gamera is really gonna be pissed after watching this. This was not what I expected. This movie is targeted at 8 year olds...you have been warned!!!
