What exactly was Iris?

Was it a god or just some random creature? Also, where did the girl get the stone that allowed her to "bond" with Iris? Thanks in advance.

Iris has no definite origin, and several possibilities are proposed in the film. According to the villagers in Nara prefecture, Iris is a demon called the Ryuseicho that will bring about the end of the world if awoken. The programmer Kurata Shinya in the movie thinks that Iris was created as an emergency precaution by the Atlanteans to kill Gamera in case he ever grew too powerful. Iris definitely has a relationship to the Gyaos and the Atlanteans, so I assume it was either a failsafe created by the Atlanteans or the final evolution of the Gyaos.

The stone that Ayana used to bond with Iris was an Atlantean bead, like the one Asagi used to communicate with Gamera. Iris and his relationship with Ayana is meant to be a dark reflection of Gamera and Asagi's bond, and the bead is the mechanism that allowed the bond.
