juno and that pipe

wanted to ram it down her throat. she looks so stupid with it hanging out of her gormless little mouth. argh.

reply

But she's so totally hip and cool and edgy and zany!

I know! I wanted to jump in the movie and slap Juno's fart face. I hated the way the character talked too. It was so unrealistic. Her best friend in the movie acted more realistic, meaning she spoke and acted more like a teenager-Immature, funny and horny. I was a teenager once upon a time in the early 90s, and I never once met anyone else my age who spoke like Juno. It was supposed to be funny, but I was annoyed by it instead. Of course, this is just a movie, so I need to relax.

then don't watch it if it annoys you so much lol

Not sure why you bothered to watch the movie then...just to complain like you have something square up your vag Daddy-O?

You either love Diablo Cody's writing or you don't.

I think some people are resentful when they hear others being spontaneously clever and engaged in the moment.
Since they don't have the capacity to be thoughtful, it pisses them off that others are.

There is nothing spontaneous about Diablo Cody's writing and that's why the spontaneity doesn't ring true and why it's sometimes difficult to suspend disbelief in her movies. Jason Reitman took this and made it a good movie. It was the reactions - more often lack of reaction - from the family, Mark and Vanessa, and the best friend to Juno's self-absorbed behavior that made it. Nothing wrong with that unless you believe the character of Juno is supposed to be witty and original.

This brings up a difficult way to reconcile the thoughts of is she simply delivering a writer's dialog or is she a smart and clever young lady. If I am living in the moment I am enjoying her performance and taking it for granted as this is who Juno is. If I am aware of Diablo's approach as being too artificial because I can't imagine real people talking this way, then I'm having a different experience.
Personally, rightly or wrongly, I often have random thoughts come to mind while conversing and try to be a bit clever about it, but I think a lot of people find it off putting, a little too arch and oblique. "Shrug"
