Wow... an actual decent, entertaining horror movie

No, it is not perfect by any means, but I was very surprised at how much I got into it.

I am a fan of Argento movies, and it had a -bit- of that feel and atmosphere.

I saw it on the SciFi channel, and now want to get the DVD to see it without commercials every 10 minutes.

my biggest problem with it was the very end.

the part of finding the sister down in the lowest level was great, but then after they have stopped fighting, and Cristy tells Vanessa that she will take care of her, suddenly from out of friggin nowhere the little girls runs Vanessa thru with the knife... now they are in the shed, and some ways away from the door, Cristy is looking directly at Vanessa, so there is no way the little girl "sneaks up" on them unaware and pulls that off.

I dunno why, but little things like this bother me... it just seemed like lazy directing.

But this did not ruin the movie for me at all... i just wish it would have been done a little better.

I wonder if Christy might HAVE seen Amy, & allowed her to kill the "monster," to set her sister free of her suffering. You notice when Amy DOES kills Vanessa, Christy is pretty much emotionless?

The problem with that is there could've been plenty of ways to kill of her sister without making her suffer. Christy allowing Vanessa's own daughter to murder her is cruel. Christy allowing Vanessa to be STABBED to death is cruel. Christy leading Vanessa into a false sense of love & security is cruel. Christy allowing Vanessa to die alone in the depths of the lake, drowning as well as blood loss is very cruel. They say that drowning is a very painful way to go. We have seen many films wherein loved ones applied euthanasia to end the suffering of others, stabbing them is not one of them.

I find it surprisingly entertaining too.

Even though we kind of understand what's happening early on, we follow Christy in her search with interest.

And I kind of liked the ending.

I thought this film was nicely done, with a welcome and refreshing emphasis on spooky atmosphere and a compelling sense of mystery over the usual graphic gore and cheap scares.
