PC or 360?

I haven't yet decided. I know the game would be more powerful for the PC, and would probably look a little nicer, not to mention the fact it's first-person, so a keyboard and mouse would be better for gameplay. But then there's the Xbox 360 version, it's hooked up to my theater, my surround sound system, and there's achievements. I haven't decided yet.

Which one are you going for?

reply

PC, 'cos I don't have a XBox 360.

But since you have all of those hooked up, might as well get the XBox 360 version.

reply

PC, because FPS's suck on consoles.

I don't have an X360 so Im going for PC, but I probably would have anyway because its so much easier to play FPS with keyboard+mouse, especially in multiplay (multiprey :P)

PC, because:
1) I don't have a 360
2) FPSs and joypads don't mix
3) With my Z800 visor, I can play the PC version in VIRTUAL REALITY!!!

Depends. I myself say the 360 because a controller feels way more comfortable to me than a mouse and keybaord, but if you have a PC that can run the game as smoothly as the 360 and look as good then I'd have to say go with the PC version since it's cheaper.

reply

pc all the way, if you didnt waste your money on a crappy 360 you could have upgraded your comp to run this game. keyboard and mouse will always be the best way to play an fps

Devilmaster, I'm Intreagued lol. This virtual reality device you speak of...how much does it cost? whats it like? how do you get hold of one?

reply

They're several hundred bucks... Maybe when I get a better job I'll invest in one.

I personally hate FPS' on consoles. They just can't perform as good as a PC.

It costs $549. You order it online from http://www.3dvisor.com/buy.php .

PC, with creative X-Fi and 7.1 surrond sound speakers, sounds even better than consoles.

PC or 360 the game is good imo. My PC could barely run the demo, so I just bought it for 360 and it looks great on there. Some loading at times, but it's worth the wait. If your an IGN Insider they have a Prey Xbox 360 VS PC. You can check it out at this link. http://insider.ign.com/articles/719/719527p1.html

I don't get it. What's so difficult about using a joypad that scares pc users so much?

Sometimes you're the bug, and sometimes you're the windshield...

reply

I don't know either. I've grown up playing games mainly on the computer. I also had a Nintendo and a Genesis, but I didn't get an xbox until a few years after they came out.

The point is that I have much more experience playing games with the keyboard + mouse setup. But after playing FPSs on the xbox I've completely fallen in love with them. I don't really like FPS on the computer as much anymore. The (usual) setup is so easy, espcially for comp users: the left analog is the WASD keys (or arrow keys for the amateurs) and the right analog is the mouse. All the other buttons are conviently located.

Not "using a joypad" in general. I use a joypad on my PC to play driving games and all emulated games (except for the Amiga games that require a lot of keys and/or need a mouse).
But a joypad is not suitable to play an FPS. Aiming is much slower, you don't have precision, the action on the screen does not correspond to what you are actually doing with the controls (you push an analog stick to the left to rotate to the left, but you're still rotating when you're no longer moving it and you're just keeping it in place; to stop the rotation you actually need to make the opposite movement and return it to its center). It doesn't feel like you're moving and looking around, it feels like you're driving a weird vehicle.

I've played a lot of FPS games on the xbox, and I really have no idea what you're talking about. The analog stick is just like the mouse, you move it and your character moves, you stop moving it and your character stops. I don't know what you mean about having to move the stick the opposite direction to stop; whatever game you played like that was definately an exception to the norm.

You did not pay attention to what I wrote.
Run your favorite FPS on your favorite console. Now move the "look" control all the way to the right and keep it there, steady.
Ask yourself: "Am I currently moving (=changing the position of) the stick?" The answer is of course a big NO.
Look at the TV and ask yourself: "Is the POV moving?" The answer is of course a big YES, all the way to the right.
Now slowly MOVE the "look" control back to the center. Before you reach the center position, consider this: what direction are you moving it to? Answer: LEFT. Is the POV turning left? NO, it's not. It's STILL turning right, but it's slowing down, slowing down, slowing down... until it stops.
When did it stop? Answer: when the stick reached the center again. And, since you had previously pushed it all the way to the right, you had to move it TO THE LEFT to make it reach the center again.
This is what I meant by "having to move the stick the opposite direction to stop".

Ok, feel free to correct me again, but I think what you meant is: you have to move the stick the opposite direction to return to the position you just left.

Because "having to move the stick the opposite direction to stop" and that description you just gave above do not equal the same thing. I do, however, now understand what you are talking about.

I see how that is different from the mouse. I like it better that way though. On the PC most games only have two options: you can walk or you can run. Sometimes you can crouch and crawl. With the X-box (and I assume other consoles) you often have more of a range from creeping to walking to jogging to running (or whatever) depending on how far from the centre you move the stick. I guess I never thought about what you're saying because it just made sense to me. (sorry, that sounds like I'm being a jerk, but I don't mean it made sense because it's obvious, it just made sense TO ME for whatever reason).

I can understand you not like consoles though. I think the xbox is the best controller I've ever used (not including the orginal design which was made for grizzly bears), but I would find it really hard to use a psx controller.

I like the fact that if i read about a game thats coming out in say 6 months time, my 360 will run it no problem and joypads are a better way to play fps's, just turn the sensitivity up. not to say that pc's dont have good games (solitaire is ace), I just prefer consoles. simple as.

Console's are computers now, even lian-li makes new towers for xbox 360's.

My video card alone is worth more than a 360.
Bought an xbox controller for pc so I have crazy pc speeds with the only thing that makes the xbox fun woot.

I'd probably say 360 because of Achivements. But I'm not a big fan of pc gaming.
