Damien apologized to Mommy for scaring her when he jumped out from behind a tree.

Apologizing completely misses the point of Damien. Remorseless monsters do not apologize.

Even though he is the son of the devil he doesn't know really who he is. Before he understands who he is he is actually pretty innoccent. Its only after things happen like the nanny arriving that he starts to act differently.

So Damien should act like a complete monster and cause his parents to take him in for psychiatric evaluation? this won't help him hide.

Yeah really. I mean even when he was to discover who he actually is later on(assuming it happened like in the original omen II) he would still have to pretend he was an ordinary kid and not let anyone on to him. In this movie even though he didn't know what he was he must have been aware of some kind of power he had. Like when he hid from his mom at the park after her phone rang. They kind of made it seem like he planned that to happen and when she picked up there was nobody really there. And he probably made the ripples in the lake to trick Kate into thinking he was under the water.

I assumed at the time of him saying that he was still at the point where he didn't understand anything. At that point he probably did love his mom but its when people like the nanny show up and start waking up his evil side more that he starts hating her. In the original movies in Omen II Damian(or so the movie makes it seem) starts to movie away from that side of him until he begins puberty and it kind of reawakens his destiny along with other people around him influencing him. If you read the Omen II novel it gives more detail on his human side conflicting with his destiny.

Yeah, but you need to remember, Satan is the "Father of lies" (John 8:44)! So, he can "apologize" all he wants, but it doesn't mean he's sincere about it.
