I want to finally blow the lid on this.
Is it just me or is Julia Stiles a really bad actor? I've seen her in the Bourne movies, teenage flicks. She's horrible! Shes awkward and unnatural. This movie was the worst. She makes a horrid love interest. Leiv Shrieber is a quality actor and she is in no way fit to play his wife. She totally unconvincing.
What do you guys think?

this is on in the uk at the moment. when i saw it advertised in the scheduling i thought "great, some late night horror".
of course i didn't realise there had been a remake. well i've watched nearly an hour & am disappointed with it. it's a total copy. why? if they had done something different then fine but this is awful. the original was genuinely scary. this is pants. in fact i am going to switch off.
I agree with the original post. Apart from the fact that the film was rubbish and shouldn't exist, Stiles stands out as a chronic actress.

she looks a little like Lee Remick, unfortunately looks is all she shares with Ms. Remick, who was certainly up to playing in a cast with Gregory Peck. I didn't think Stiles was terrible, just sort of wooden and emotionless. Like the rest of the cast from what I have seen so far, in the first hour. If it doesn't pick up very soon, I won't bother with the rest.

She's alright. I just think she was seriously mistcast here. Too young for the role (at times she sounded more like the boy's older sister rather than his mom)and had zero chemistry with Schreiber.
shareI actually reckon she did a better job than Schreiber here - and I LIKE Schreiber. I've enjoyed him in plenty of other films. But neither Schreiber nor Stiles are good enough to make up for poor direction. This is the director of Max Payne and A Good Day To Die Hard. He doesn't know how to get a good performance.
You know what the most tense scene in the entire movie is? The one where the air bubble is being passed into Julia Stiles. She absolutely sells the utter terror of that scene. Stiles is not a bad actress here. She does her absolute best in an absolutely dire movie. But in the end, the director is in charge.
I agree. I think Julia did really good acting here, and I thought Schreiber was good too, but Stiles ultimately had the more difficult role. First of all, it didn't fit, second of all, Kate is the mother who doesn't like her child. It really frustrates me how he doesn't listen to her when she says she doesn't feel comfortable around her son.
I think the acting was good. It's not her acting that was bad, it's the movie.
miscast is more like it, she was o.k in 10 things i hate about you and also the bourne series...

Julia was dull in this film and did not give leiv much help. I have seen her in several other films and it is always the low mono tone maybe she is a better stage actress. I have heard she is good on stage so maybe she should stay in that arena....

I agree, Julia Stiles and Kirsten Dunst ( Mary Jane Watson from Spider-man) are exactly the same, they should be sisters, they both share the same personality, charisma and talent
