Listed by the BBC as one of the 100 greatest films of the 21st century

Interestingly, in a 2016 BBC survey on the 100 greatest films of the 21st century, Margaret came out #31. The survey was held among 177 film critics from around the world.

I think this was the title in the poll that I was most pleased with. A real shock. The director's first film 'You Can Count On Me' was held in much higher regard, yet it hasn't mad the poll. Margaret was more ambitious, and it's unconventional nature must have appealed to critics in the long term.

Just forget you ever saw it. It's better that way.

It deserved to be a lot higher, but at least critics are finally catching on.

That's a pretty good list, with a lot of similarities to TheyShootPicturesDon'tThey and some of the other aggregate lists I've seen. I'd personally put Margaret in my top 5 almost certainly, and many of the others that I'd rank very highly aren't there - in part I suspect due to extreme length (the 4-hour-plus films from Jonas Mekas, Lav Diaz and Raul Ruiz) and relative obscurity. Not a big fan of Nolan or Sofia Coppola but there aren't too many other directors/films on the list that I dislike or can't see the greatness in.

I suspect Margaret's fortunes may rise at least a tiny bit due to Lonergan's newest film getting massive praise and actually making a small impact at the box office. At least I think this will prompt more people to see his earlier masterpiece, whether they like it or not.

Be true, Unbeliever.
