It's obvious who won Best Director that year though...

I'm officially calling shenanigans. There should be no oscar this year, "leisurely pedestrians" is a blatant rip-off of "traffic crossing leeds bridge." They just switched a few things around, slapped a new title on it and called it a masterpiece.

"And another thing, how come i can't get no tang round here?"

Damn remakes!

Is this little relic from the past lost?

"Pull the string, pull the string!" -Bela Lugosi

I believe this film is lost, as many older ones are, but there was a movie entitled The Magic Box made in 1951 which tells the story of Friese-Greene and his making of this production. I've heard it's good but I haven't seen it.

I have heard that 'The Magic' Box' (1951) is a rather inaccurate depiction of Friese-Greene's involvement in early motion pictures and Victorian-era cinema.

Is it any good?

It's actually very good and an honest portrayal of the man. A superb scene was at 3 in the morning he finally puts the dried film in the projector to see if it finally works. As he starts to crank it, his eyes are shut, almost afraid to see if it works, or is it 16 years of work down the tube. He opens his eyes and for a few seconds his face is a blank slate and the scene ends. The very next scene shows him (Robert Donat, one of my favorite actors) running down an alleyway looking for someone, anyone but at 3am it's not easy. He finally comes across a bobbie (policeman, played by someone very famous, that's all I'll say) and talks him into going to "see what I've done". ....You have to see the rest, I won't spoil it for you!
