American Idiot...

Why would anyone change the title from 'Hallam Foe' to 'Mister Foe'?

I've got it! Let's all roll in the muck of idiocy! We'll all become Americans! Brilliant!

Next on the chopping block:

'Jerry Maguire' shall henceforth be known as 'Mister Maguire'

'Edward Scissorhands' shall be 'Mister Scissorhands'

'Raging Bull' shall be 'Mister Bull'

'Batman Begins'? 'Mister Man Begins'!

'American Idiot'? 'Mister Idiot' (the American is implied with the use of the word 'idiot' in the title already ;-)

I'm being a smartarse, of course — some titles need changing:

Not sure many people would have gone to see the film 'Nothing Lasts Forever' starring Bruce Willis & Alan Rickman.

Not sure many blokes would have paid to see 'Flowers for Algernon' starring Cliff Robertson, either.

And if you thought the title of the film adaptation sunk its BO chances, hooking the title of the book 'Rita Hayworth & Shawshank Redemption' around its neck would have sunk it completely.

But give us a break: 'Mister Foe'! How was that supposed to generate more interest in the states? If they wanted Americans to come see it, they should have retitled it: 'Hope & Change' — they seem very susceptible to that sort of rubbish ;-)

Heath Ledger will win the Oscar...and there's nothing you can do about it ;-)

Hallam is not a common name in the US. 'Mister Foe' is more appealing to more audiences because it is more relatable. I love the original title, but there's not much I can do about the change. It is what it is.

Not very common in the uk either, ive never seen this film but its on tonight so ive come to see if its worth watching and thats when i found out it was a name, i was thinking more along the lines of it being a place haha never ever heard that name before

I live in the UK and I've never met a single person with the name Hallam, so the commonality of the name has sod all to do with it. At the end of the day this is just another example of idiotic America needlessly changing things because they can't bare to meet anything halfway.

'Batman Begins'? 'Mister Man Begins'!

A gritty reboot of the Mr Men cartoons? i'd watch it.

Very good, but brick not hit back!
