sharePossibly some French movie with Louie Garrel(Ma Mere). I mean, Hallam Foe has this foreign french instinct to it..maybe it has to do with the whole mother thing or something. It does have a dark, slightly disturbing richness to it. Yet Bell, is amazing at conveying that in his other films, too.I think thats what gives him this earthy/human appeal even in the Undertow. Hallam Foe has this unique sensuality a bit like Marc-Andre Grondin's Belle bête, La (French Canadian film).

Very similar to A Short Film About Love (and, more tenuously, Snow White and the Seven Dwarves - only because of a wicked stepmother).
shareI was just thinking about Short film about love. I downloaded it having already seen the shorter version in the Dekalog and I remembered how similar it was Hallam Foe. Kieslowski was a genius.
