Why were they in this?

Leighton Meester, Penn Badgley,Melora Hardin, Nicholas D'Agosto? Now, I know they don't exactly have stellar track records, but they all have some pretty good movies and television roles. Usually these kinds of casts go for the big budget movies or symbolic/ witty kinds of horror movies. This movie was trashy, and really emphasized on that. It just seems like the kind of movie such a cool cast would just turn their noses at and laugh at the offer. What made this one so special that it got all these cool actors?

And Lola Glaudini as well, a lot of the actors are doing very well in TV, girl from The Ring is even in this... kinda blows my mind too, but I'm glad because the cast helps this film a lot.. It's not really that bad. The backstory feels contrived, stolen from Nightmare on Elm Street, but I enjoyed it.

I was under the impression the gossip kids did this at about the same time as gossip girl was coming out in 2007. They really weren't that famous before that.
