I Actually Quite Liked It...

I'm not saying this to start a flame war or anything. These boards are for opinions, and so I'm stating mine. Sure it's not a laugh-a-minute comedy, and it's certainly nothing spectacular, but I enjoyed watching it and found it compelling- simple as that.

There are a few funny parts (the whole filming scene, and everything going wrong; the grandmother's biscuit obsession) and I quite like the relationship between Ant and Dec's characters. They have worked together for so long that it's nothing forced and it appears to be genuine and real. I was only five when the whole 'Alien Autopsy' scandal happened and so maybe this is the reason I enjoyed the movie, as I only know vague facts about the actual event.

I found this movie a lot better than some of the other movies I've seen recently ('Fun With Dick and Jane' for one) and it was an enjoyable way of just chilling out in the afternoon.

I totally agree this movie was fun and harmless. the sory is interesting and to all of you who say that this movies crap seems to be jealous of the fatc that ant and dec have made a movie and quite a good one taboot!!

reply

What can I say, I liked it as well, it wasn't as funny as i expected but this is based on a true story. It did make me want to watch the original so see if i could spot any goofs as i hear there are plenty.

Anyway, i will be making my own alien film so i can get $750,000(I thought they might have made more) but i also have a mate thats a joiner, I have the camera, I just need to make friends with a butcher)

reply

I saw it yesterday and it's really good. Ok so you don't laugh all the way through it, but it is really worth going to see. i'm glad I saw it

It was a nice funny film.

What's wrong with people? 1.5/10???

"Frankenstein was creator, not the monster.A common misconception held by all truly stupid people"

reply

It was good but not briliant. i was suprised by the 1.5 user rating. it should be 6.

reply

No, the real monster was Frankenstein, not the monster, so I guess you're one of those people that think you're clever enough to comprehend english but just not quite clever enough to understand the story.

Seeing as you thought this pathetic pile of crap was 'a nice funny film' I'm really not surprised.

As for the earlier posters comment relating to the original AA scandal, what scandal? Most intelligent people knew before they had seen it that it was a load of old baloney, don't tell me you actually believe in aliens, faeries and the Lockness monster, lol some people are beyond dumb.

reply

....." lol some people are beyond dumb"

And you'll find them in Church every sunday

reply

But from what I have read it was awful i'm staying well away!!

reply

well your name is also Loser Geek, so why wouuld anyone give 2 *beep* about your opinion, i havent seen the movie, but your just a fag.

reply

I thought the film was really funny, if only in parts. The entire cinema (admittadly only about twenty people) were skitting laughing during the autopsy. there are MUCH worse films out there

reply

I very much agree!!! Who the hell have been giving it 1/10!?! Bitter bastards.

It's just a fun film with a storyline that holds your attention all the way through. And Ant and Dec impressed me with their acting abilities and the chemistry between them on screen is, as always, perfect :) Great supporting cast, too.

Go see it and judge for yourself is my only advice to those who are unsure.

"...You're telling me out of all the people on the planet that YOU'RE the one blessed with this discovery?"
"Isn't it brilliant?!"

reply

Totally agree, not loadsa laughs but when did anyone say it would be laughs a minute. I really enjoyed it and will be seeing it again. Well done to the geordie lads for their performance.

reply

i too enjoyed this film, me and my boyfriend, went to watch it. we both enjoyed it and definately was better than it looked in the trailers. i would recommend this film to anyone, ant and dec did well, very impressed:)

reply

I quite liked it too, i was surprised it got such a low rating on here

reply

I thought it was really good - voted a ten to bump up the rating!

"He said 'I love you'"

reply

Pretty much exactly what I would've written.

I'm surprised that the critics have slated it so harshly, I really quite enjoyed it.

reply

Had this movie not been based on a true story, I never would have believed anything of this outlandishness (outlandinity?) could have happened in real life. This movie has given me hope. Hope that reality can be as captivating and exciting as film, and for that I am grateful.
The movie's strong point is definately the story and the execution of it. People are probably mislead by Ant and Dec and the advertisements that look harshly innapropriate. Don't go into the movie expecting a comedy because it pretty much falls flat on it's face. There are a few (Key word: few) *beep* moments, but that's all. Appreciate it for what it is; an enjoyable and wonderful true story.

reply

Same here! I think the critics were being too harsh about it

reply

Can someone tell me where the laughs were,I cannot believe this made it to the big screen watchable saturday afternoon flick yes,but only because it's ant and dec,but I am sorry I did not laugh once in this,I would have rather watch a film length version of fawlty towers,Seinfield,Office,Green wing,Scrubs or Curb you enthusiasum etc ,but this did not have me laugh out loud once,it's should not even be in the comedy section.

reply

I quite liked it, but it wasn't funny. Ant & Dec deserve better.

reply

Oh ffs...there are a few gentle laughs in it. Adults with a REAL sense of humour aren't going to laugh OUT LOUD at it. As has been said in another thread, the comedy'd appeal to younger kids.

I personally thought Ray delivering copied videos to the undertaker lad while he's leading a funeral was pretty funny. And just the way he said 'Your DATE?' to his nan.
Also laughed at Dec's faces when they're eating kebabs and then Gary says he's going to put himself through law school.
I love the whole 'Janet' weirdo ex-girlfriend conversation, too.
And Dec hamming it up on the chatshows is pretty funny.
"Hey now manillito...cool it compadre otherwise you and me are going to have to take this down town!"

But most of the supposed laughs happen during the autopsy. 'Would you like a biscuit?' raised a smile from me. But then repeating it with the 'sausage on a stick?' ruined it slightly.
Dropping the brain. 'Ohhh the carpet.'
"I'll put a pot plant on it, yeah?'
And the 'travels across the universe with only a haggis to guide him?!' is meant to be a big laugh, I think.
And then the sister walking in to see an alien cut open in her living room is also sort of funny.

I'm not saying I laughed at ALL these moments, and there are more, I'm just pointing out the reason it has to be called a comedy rather than anything else. My favourite comedies are things like Monty Python, Fawlty Towers, Steptoe and Son, Rising Damp, Blackadder, Red Dwarf, The Office, Father Ted, Bottom, Peep Show, Green Wing, Curb Your Enthusiasm, I'm Alan Partridge, and lots more. Obviously film versions of these would be comedies and much funnier than Alien Autopsy.

I never really watch Ant and Dec to get HUGE laughs, apart from on I'm a Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here. They're witty lads. The way their 'comedy' writers write for them is always a bit weak, I think, which is a shame. But as their first venture into film I think AA is brilliant.

reply

to be honest as a fan of the lads i think i wouldnt of enjoyed if they wasnt in it, so i can understand why some dont like it, i dint really laught much but it was still good ive seen worse

reply

I went to see it. I feel sorry for the people who got bored by the start and walked out. The ending was the best bit when the guy who gave ray the film keeps on complaining (lmfao).

reply

I thought it was very funny and a bit of harmless fun, but i also enjoyed the league of gentlemen (Churchill the hollywood years was a completly wasted opportunity though) Id say this film deserved at least a 6 or 7

I went to see the film expecting the worst, but was pleasantly surprised. I like movies & am quite easily entertained, though I had do have my limits - The Pink Panther & Basic Instinct 2 being recent examples!!! Yeah, Alien Autopsy was a decent film, that I feel is being unfairly criticised.

reply

Yeh I thought it was pretty great! Just take it for what it is :) Enjoyable!

reply

I loved this movie it is definitely one of my favourites

reply

i like Ant & Dec, they are good entertainers - this movie shows them in another light which we haven't seen for ages (or not seen at all, considering how old you are to remember them in Byker Grove) and i think they are pretty good actors, they pull off their respected parts very well, this film was entertaining and funny, not as funny as you would expect from Ant & Dec (since they are normally "laugh a minute" entertainment) but they were good in this movie, i never heard of the whole fake Alien Autopsy thing before this movie came out, it was probably a fake in the first place, maybe it was all true. Maybe that Ray Santini brewed the whole thing up at the start, maybe it was all real ... who cares - it was a good film.

i'm actually appalled that this film got such bad rating on here, that's probably typical of all the sad People who i guarantee haven't even seen this film but remember the story anyways and think it's just a way for that Ray Santini to make more money, which it might be, but nevertheless, the whole story is interesting and good.

nice nice nice movie!loved it!

I thought it was brilliant fun.
I hate it when people get so critical about films, just stop, nobody cares.

reply

I never heard of Ant & Dec before so I saw this film w/o much bias towards them. I enjoyed the film a lot, it just came by on cable & I decided to watch it not expecting much. I honestly never heard of the Alien autopsy scandal, I didn't even know that this was based off that. I'm from the Philippines & I guess on a personal level, I was not exposed to that. I especially loved the line - 'it isn't a fake, it's a remake' - LOL!

there was nothing else on tv and i normally can't stand ant and dec, so figured this would be on for about 2 minutes before i put on a dvd, but have to say, hats off to them, i actually quite liked it too...

reply

I really enjoyed it. It was funny and light hearted, a combination which is often hard to find with films coming out lately.

I especially enjoyed the filming of the autopsy scene. It was really funny with all the interruptions.

All in all, I'd actually enjoy seeing the film again.
