based on a movie!!!

This game looks as if its based on the movie 'In the mouth of madness'(one of my fave Carpenter films).
The movie unfolds as a famous horror writer goes missing after he finishes writing his new novel in a small town and a jounalist(Sam Neil) goes looking for questions.
As he starts to read the book its nightmarish visions come to life.
The game looks as if its 'Unoficialy based on the happenings of the author before he vannished.
Can't wait !!!!!!!!!!!!!

I haven't seen "in the mouth of madness" but i can assure you that this is Sam Lake's own story. Not based off another project.

Ok thanks for tht, but if you want to see a film which has a similar story and which in my oppinion is a cult clasic look 'In the mouth of maddness' up.

It differs quite a bit if you ask me...

Alan Wake has probably more in common to Shining and Silent Hill.
In the mouth of madness is a movie about a search for the writer who's books becomes real. This is a story ABOUT the writer who tries to flee from his creations...

They also based the game on twin peaks

Wow, people say Max Payne is inspired by The Punisher and now maybe Alan Wake can be based on In Mouth of Madness

"They also based the game on twin peaks "

Really?

Silent Hill 4 is also very similar to 'In The Mouth of Madness'.

I definitely got an “In the Mouth of Madness” vibe from the trailer too… I don’t think that it’s meant to be related to the story but I wouldn’t be surprised if it was an influence in this games creation. Sort of the way that “In the Mouth of Madness” felt reminiscent of the works of H.P. Lovecraft.

That was an awesome movie but you know, many things are alike or are inspired by other works. That doesn't mean they're not original works. If Järvi/Lake can take a popular idea and make a story on it, sure. Besides, how many movies and games are there about deserted cities that become evil when darkness comes? SO many.

The setting of the game is supposed to be largely based on the setting of Twin Peaks, whether any story aspects are taken from it I don't know.

The game reminds me a hell of a lot of the film Darkness Falls though, in that the enemies are more easily damaged by light than weapons. And the name of the town in Alan Wake is Bright Falls. (Of course, I don't think that the villain in this game will be the tooth fairy.)

Deep space planet future gun action!

Yes, i totally had my husband watch MoM after I was done with Alan Wake. Then Twin peaks.

If you ask me it has a greater similarity to Darkness Falls (1994)
