Great Writing, but....

I think David Spade gives a very flat delivery. I just saw the new episode (the first one I've ever seen) and I found myself thinking that the material was very clever but it didnt make me really laugh out loud. What do other people think?

reply

I agree. The writing is good.

Spade comes across as jaded--which suits the material.

reply

Are you kidding? It's called dead pan delivery, it's classic.

reply

the jokes are dull, david spade has zero delivery. after south park i hit the mute button until the daily show starts.

reply

the show is written greatly...i seriously laugh my butt off everytime its on...David is good at his lines, but i feel like everything is totally rushed! He like goes from one story to the next so quickly, and doesnt seem to connect with his audience unlike Colbert. Its odd to watch him run on to the stage, quickly get into the news, then run off the stage before they've even went to the commerical break! its like he wants to get the hell out of there as soon as possible! Does anyone else notice this?

reply

I've never laughed at The Daily Show or Colbert Report once. My friends laugh it up but I just don't connect.

It's called "Dry Humor", my friend.

reply

no, i enjoy dry humor. Flight of the Chonchords are super dry and I love them. Spades delivery just doesn't seem to have a motive. It almost feels as if he just goes from one line to another reading a teleprompter.

reply

Everybody had their opinion, i find the writing excellent, and Spades just the right sarcastic @$$ to pull it off.

reply

its supposed to be fast, kind of like the SNL Weekend Update.

"WHEN THE FU** DID WE GET ICE CREAM?!"

reply

I can see this too, but it's not read with the same 'newsbreak' urgency of tone that weekend update is.
