Canadians: this better than Popcultured?

Is this rip-off any better than the original?

Yes,definitely!

David Spade actually gives intelligent, clever opinions on what's going on in pop culture and pokes fun of it that way. Elvira Kurt just gave silly one-lined jokes that weren't really that funny, and used the same type of cliche jokes about the same people (like Michael Jackson, Britney Spears, etc) that you would have heard from Mike Bullard or any one else.
It didn't seem very well thought out and wasn't at all thought provoking. David Spade will say something and you might think "hey, I agree with that" or "That wasn't how I see it."

I think that's the trap Canadian satirists fell into. It's not commentary to them anymore, it's just mocking other celebrities. Rick Mercer and Glen Foster were the only ones for a while making good commentaries in their comedy, while other satirists, like 22 minutes and air farce, just did lame jokes.

Thanks. That was very thorough. :)

Elvira Kurt is whack. David Spade is light years beyond her in terms of use of sarcasm and just plain character assassination with his delivery. Absolutely hilarious. Quite disappointed to see it's been cancelled. This show is seriously funny, with some of the best stuff being lil skits where he puts himself into courtroom footage. Elvira Kurt wouldn't even have a show if she wasn't a Canadian lesbian, she ain't nuthin' out in LA. I have seen many an episode of Popcultured with Elvira Kurt while all other channels were full of infomercials and whatnot, and it's not funny at all. Not even with a 6-pack and a spliff. Not funny at all.
Ridiculous things Canadian Government will give tax credits for.
Whatever happened to Kevin Spencer?

reply

Kevin Spencer had it's last episode years ago. It totally ruined the whole show, too.

popcultured isn't original. The soup came before it. And Spade's show is a long form of the schtick he did on weekend update in the early 90's. How do you rip off what you invented?
